Trials and Tribulations

Because we are having a hard time with our hosts, it demands that Kels and I depend on eachother, and we can connect due to the stuggles we both are faced with.
Personally, my biggest one right now is meat. I truly can't stand the sight or thought of meat, especially when our host talk about how they choose their meat by its taste.  :(  I litterally CAN'T eat meat. It's like my body and mind are litterally fighting it :( My original plan was to avoid eating it if there was an option, but not to make a fuss. But now that it affects me so much, I don't know what to do...  our current hosts won't have any of it.
Lastnight, we had company for dinner! We ate lots of food and drank LOTS of champagne and wine, and talked a lot! It was a great night, and we got to really hang out and talk to some other people. This English couple who came kept talking about their kids and how awful they are. I tried (in vane) telling them that they'd had to let their kids be. The more they told them to go get a job, the less of a chance there was that they'd do it. Self motivation will be the only thing that'll bring any of them satisfaction.
Anyway, so we all drank a bit much and talked a TON,  and then went to bed. This morning we woke up quite late, I cleaned up all the evidence of the party, and now we're back to the regular, posh English person's Sunday: get the workawayers to heat up the croissants and make coffee, sit and read the paper, and tell the American girls what work they are to do while Neil and Mary watch football on the tele (without a "please" or "thank you"). But as we are all dragging a little, its okay that we sit for a bit!
I guess im complaining too much. I just think that this workaway thing was supposed to be an equal exchange of effort and work for hospitality, which is not happening. But we're only here for another 8 days, during which we'll learn a lot!

  1. Thank you for sharing your struggles as well as the nice pictures. Yes, you are surely learning a lot in a short time.Be glad and thankful that you had a different upbringing with other values ! The remaining days will pass quickly - you may tell us all the pleasant AND unpleasant things you have to do or to endure. The house looks nice and your room under the roof ?
    Thank you again for letting us take part in your various adventures even from far away and know that our love is with you

  2. Just tell them straightup that you are not going to eat meet anymore... If they are being rude to you, you dont have to return kindness.. your working for them, i dought they are going to kick you out of their house just because you dont want to eat meet.
    I love that sunset picture!
    lot of love

    Perhaps you can go with your lovely hosts to the next market day in the closest village and get some good stuff to cook up.....Each work away host strongly relies on the feedback of former guests;
    you have power, strength, rights, endurance and humor enough for whatever you'll encounter!
    sending you all my 'tude and love
