So, after all that drama I wrote about in my last post, a man showed up at 17h and asked for my signature for a package. They came at long last! Kels and I spent 30secs jumping up and down in the kitchen (alone) and screaming silently, and then we spilled the news.
The fact that we are leaving turned out to be more sweet than bitter a few hours later: Yesterday morning, once we had just given up on leaving today, Pete gave us the tast of repainting his "man cave", all walls and the ceiling. He handed us a paintbrush, a roller, a big can of white paint, and some drop cloths. Now, this room is actually quite big, and completely filled with stuff: multiple computers, 4 guitars, books, a big bed, his "stash", etc. He told us to just cover things and paint, and that there were 6 more cans of paint if we ran out. Anyway, we got painting, finishes the first can of paint and Kelsey went into his workshop to find another; we finished one wall and then had to stop to make supper. When Pete came back, he 'expressed' to us that the second can of paint was "the wrong one". Pete really wasn't happy (to say the least). Great last memory... :-/ We made a delicious Pumpkin dish and a fresh salad with shredded pumpkin, cabbage, grapes, seeds, etc. (all ingredients from the garden)! Pete blew it off saying he wasn't hungry, so we ate alone in silence and then hurried upstairs to pack. The rest of the evening was quiet and uncomfortable....
This morning we woke up early to get the rest of our things together and get ready to leave to make out 11h05 train to Agen. At breakfast we called the train station to reserve our ticket, just to be sure we could get a seat before the train filled up. They let us know that there were no more seats available for people using Eurail Passes, but that we could buy tickets 50% off (€69 each). We were so surprised and annoyed, but after a few minutes of quiet discussion, we decided to call back and buy those tickets. When we called back, they let us know that there were no more 50% off tickets for Eurail Pass holders left :O and that we had to buy a full priced ticket if we wanted that ticket...
These stupid Eurail "FlexiPasses" have given us such a headache already and we haven't even used them yet! So, we decided that it would be better for us to use more money and move on to our next adventure. I called Mary (our next host), and told her that plans had changed AGAIN.
We bid Janita fairwell and then drove 30mins to the station with Pete (a little uncomfortable), for our 12h30 train. We managed to retreive our paper tickets we'd bought online from the teller using our few french words and hand gestures :) and finally hopped on a train out of Vichy.
It took us due east (Agen is west) into Lyon where we got off for 2 hours. We explored a little of the lovely city, and then got back to the huuuge station and found our next train from Lyon to Agen.
It's 21h01 now and in 15mins we're going to meet our host for the next 2 weeks!
Kelsey's deep asleep, exhausted from our 8+ hours of travel...
I'll write again soon!
